The new toy safety standard ISO 8124:2022 has been officially released

In September 2022, ISO released a new version of the toy safety standard ISO 8124-1:2002, Toy Safety Part 1: "Safety in relation to Mechanical and Physical Properties", cancels and replaces ISO 8124-1:2018, which also includes two revisions to ISO 8124-1:2017 / AMd.1:2017 and ISO 8124-1:2017 / AMd.2:2017.

ISO 8124-1:222 Major update

Based primarily on existing standards in the European Union (EN 71-1) and the United States of America (ASTM F963), ISO 8124-1:222 sets out acceptable standards for structural characteristics of toys, including shape, size, contour, spacing, and characteristics of specific toy categories. ISO 8124-1:222 applies to all toy products or toy materials designed or expressly intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age.

Added requirements for safe stopping or locking devices for other toy parts with folding mechanisms

4.16 Closed toys

An option for ventilation requirements has been added to clause 4.16.1 "Ventilation" and clause 4.16.3 "Toys with closed heads"

4.22 Toy bike

Added labeling requirements for toy bicycle protection equipment

4.23 Speed limits for electric riding toys

New speed limits have been added

4.27 Toy skates, toy inline skates, and toy skateboards

Modified warning requirements, clear warning language position

4.29/5.25 Sound Requirements

The sound pressure parameters of drag toys are added, the test method of push and pull toys is clarified, and the position of warning words is clarified
